The top 3 costumes of the Black Panther movie that you can make with Cimmino fabrics
Black Panther was one of the most highly anticipated films of 2018, not just for its adaptation of the popular comic, but also for its fashion. It is not a surprise that the movie won this year the Oscar for the Best Costume Design which is also the first ever Oscar for Marvel Studios. In addition to Best Costume Design, Black Panther has won also Best Original Score and Best Production Design at this year’s awards.
Ruth Carter, the costume designer, has created and conceptualized for Black Panther and the fantastical world of Wakanda, over 1.000 costumes by drawing inspiration from Afropunk fashion and traditional African tribal garments defined by vibrant colors, patterns, woven textiles, intricate beading, embroidery, and draping. She mixed tradition and technology, old and new, movement of sorts as well as a fashion trend, to bring the film’s Afrofuturist vision to life.
Here are the top 3 costumes of the movie Black Panther:
The Wakanda royal who is also the Black Panther, wears always black and represents the fusion of science fiction and fantasy with African culture. Black Panther’s suit features patterned triangles, the “sacred geometry” of Africa and it’s the best exemple of the film’s celebration of Afrofuturism. The costume is actually a true catsuit with separate gloves and boots.
Okoye and her band of female fighters, the Dora Milaje, are in vibrant red. The costume was likely made of the stretch jersey that the superhero suits were made of. The suits appear to have been made in two parts (a leotard top and tights below), with various designs silk-screened onto them using stretchy, dimensional inks. The necklines of the suits were decorated with intricate bead work.
Nakia as a part of the river tribe is in shades of green and pays tribute to the Suri tribe. She protects her country from outside forces as a War Dog, one of its most accomplished espionage agents. Head cover is called a khimar under which is a scarf tied around her head.
